How to choose a mobile attribution partner

Every MMP now runs on the same SKAdNetwork/Privacy Sandbox constraints; pick by fraud handling, cost data and what else the vendor bundles in.

A mobile measurement partner exists to answer one question honestly: which install came from which ad. That question got much harder once Apple's SKAdNetwork and AdAttributionKit and Google's Privacy Sandbox removed the device-level identifiers attribution used to rely on, and every vendor in this category — Adjust, AppsFlyer, Branch, Kochava, Singular, Tenjin and Airbridge — now runs on the same underlying constraint. That convergence is exactly why choosing between them comes down to what each one does around that shared core, not whether one has "better" attribution.

They all solve the same core problem now

Every MMP listed here aggregates SKAdNetwork and AdAttributionKit postbacks for iOS and has adapted its Android measurement to Google's Privacy Sandbox Attribution Reporting API as third-party identifiers are phased out. None of them can promise deterministic, device-level attribution the way the category could a few years ago. If a vendor's pitch leans heavily on precision that sounds better than what these platform constraints allow, ask exactly how they're getting it — probabilistic modeling and SKAdNetwork aggregation are the honest baseline for everyone here.

Fraud protection: built in, or an add-on

Install fraud is a real cost, and vendors differ in whether protection is the default or something you pay extra for. Singular builds fraud prevention into every plan rather than selling it separately. Adjust, AppsFlyer and Kochava all offer dedicated fraud modules (Adjust Protect, and similar), generally as part of a broader package rather than a bare-bones tier. Ask specifically whether the plan you're quoted includes fraud detection or whether it's a line item.

Cost aggregation: does the platform pull spend data too, or just conversions

Attribution without spend data only tells half the story. Singular emphasizes full-spectrum cost aggregation across every ad network as a core differentiator, unifying spend and attributed outcomes in one report rather than requiring a separate export. Kochava pairs attribution with its own first-party data warehouse so cost and outcome data can be queried together. Tenjin, aimed specifically at game studios, bundles cost aggregation and SKAdNetwork conversion-value management into one all-inclusive plan rather than gating it behind a higher tier. If your team currently exports attribution data to reconcile against spend by hand, this is the feature to weight heavily.

Incrementality and marketing mix modeling

Attributed conversions can overstate a channel's real effect — some of those installs would have happened anyway. Adjust and AppsFlyer both offer incrementality testing to measure true lift against a holdout, and Kochava and AppsFlyer connect their data to marketing mix modeling workflows for cross-channel budget decisions that don't rely on last-touch attribution alone. If your media budget is large enough that a wrong attribution call moves real money, weight this feature over a marginally larger network integration list.

Deep linking and web-to-app

Branch is built around deep linking first, with attribution layered on top — its Journeys product is aimed specifically at converting mobile web traffic into app installs and routing users to the right in-app content across devices and referral flows. If web-to-app conversion is a meaningful part of your funnel, Branch's core strength is directly relevant in a way it isn't for teams running pure paid app-install campaigns.

Regional and vertical fit

Not every MMP is equally strong everywhere. Airbridge is notably strong in Korea and the broader Asia-Pacific region and supports 330+ ad networks on its Growth plan, relevant if a meaningful share of installs comes from that market. Tenjin is built specifically for mobile game studios and prices and packages around that use case rather than general app marketing.

Ownership and neutrality

Adjust has been part of AppLovin, itself a large ad network, since 2022. It continues to operate as an independent product measuring the wider ad-network ecosystem, but some advertisers weigh that ownership structure when deciding whether to trust attribution from a company connected to a network it's also measuring. It's a fair question to raise directly with the vendor rather than assume either way.

What pricing actually rewards

  • Per-conversion, publishedSingular and Tenjin show real per-conversion rates on their entry tiers, making early comparison easier.
  • Per-conversion, quote-only above a free tierAppsFlyer and Kochava publish an entry rate but move to custom quotes at scale.
  • Fully quote-basedAdjust and Branch publish nothing; budget a sales cycle before comparing total cost.
  • Per data point consumedAirbridge's Core plan is unusual in pricing by postbacks and events processed rather than conversions.

A shortlist by situation

  • If you're comparing the two largest MMPs head to head, see Adjust vs AppsFlyer.
  • If web-to-app conversion matters as much as paid app installs, see AppsFlyer vs Branch.
  • If you're a mobile game studio, Tenjin's all-inclusive, published pricing is built for your specific workflow.
  • If you need attribution plus a queryable first-party warehouse, Kochava pairs the two by default.
  • If most of your spend is in Korea or Asia-Pacific, put Airbridge on the shortlist alongside the global players.

Questions to ask a vendor or in a trial

  1. Walk us through exactly how you handle SKAdNetwork/AdAttributionKit and Privacy Sandbox measurement today — not the pitch from two years ago.
  2. Is fraud prevention included in the plan we're being quoted, or a separate line item?
  3. Can we run a true incrementality test with a holdout group, or only see attributed conversions?
  4. Does ad-spend cost data land in the same report as attributed conversions, or do we still reconcile two exports?
  5. What happens to per-conversion pricing as our volume grows 5x — get the number, not "we'll work something out."

Common mistakes

Assuming one MMP has meaningfully more accurate device-level attribution than another under the same platform-level constraints everyone operates under. Buying attribution without checking whether fraud prevention is included. Treating attributed conversions as proof of lift without ever running a holdout test. Picking the MMP with the most network integrations without checking whether it covers the two or three networks that actually matter for your spend.
