Moody's RMS

Catastrophe risk modeling platform quantifying hurricane, earthquake, flood, wildfire and climate risk for insurers, reinsurers and ILS investors.

Moody's RMS (formerly Risk Management Solutions, acquired by Moody's in 2021) is a catastrophe-modeling specialist, distinct from Moody's Analytics' credit-risk products despite the shared parent. Its high-definition models simulate natural catastrophe events, chiefly hurricane, earthquake, flood and wildfire, to estimate expected losses across an insurer's or reinsurer's exposure, delivered through the cloud-based Intelligent Risk Platform. Climate-change scenario modeling extends this to longer-horizon physical-risk assessment, and casualty and cyber risk modules address non-catastrophe lines. RMS also provides event-response services with loss estimates in the days following a major catastrophe. Compared with Verisk, which spans claims and underwriting data broadly, or Cape Analytics, which analyzes individual property imagery, RMS operates at the portfolio-aggregation level insurers use for reinsurance purchasing and capital adequacy.
