Free federal tool giving every US county and census tract a 0–100 composite risk score across 18 natural hazards.
The National Risk Index (NRI) is a free FEMA dataset and web map that scores every county and census tract in the United States on relative risk from 18 natural hazard types, including hurricane, tornado, wildfire, flood, earthquake and winter storm. The composite score combines each area's Expected Annual Loss from hazards with its Social Vulnerability and Community Resilience, producing a 0 (lowest) to 100 (highest) index that is comparable across the country. It is used by emergency managers, planners, insurers, lenders and researchers to benchmark relative risk rather than to price individual losses. Data is downloadable via OpenFEMA and explorable through an interactive map, and the underlying methodology is documented in a public technical report.
