Home energy monitoring hardware and app that uses machine learning to identify individual appliances from a home's electrical signal.
Sense is a consumer-facing home energy monitor: a device installed at the electrical panel samples power draw at high frequency, and Sense's machine-learning models identify which individual appliances and devices are running from the resulting signal pattern, without separate sensors on each appliance. The consumer app shows real-time and historical usage broken down by device, solar production where applicable, and alerts for unusual consumption. Sense also sells a utility-facing offering that lets power companies bundle the monitor into energy-efficiency and demand-response programs, giving it a secondary business model beyond direct-to-consumer sales. This positions it differently from GridPoint or AutoGrid, which target commercial buildings and utility-scale demand response rather than individual homes.
