CDP
Non-profit global disclosure system through which companies report climate, water and forest impact data annually.
CDP, formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project, is a UK-registered non-profit running the world's largest environmental disclosure system rather than a software vendor companies buy licenses from. Each year, companies respond to CDP's climate change, water security and forests questionnaires -- typically because an investor or customer has requested it through CDP's platform -- and CDP scores each response from A to D-. CDP itself does not sell an analytics product; its value to the wider market is the standardized dataset those scores produce, which is widely licensed and embedded into other ESG ratings such as MSCI's and Sustainalytics'. Companies responding to a genuine investor or customer request typically disclose at no charge, while self-motivated disclosure outside that mechanism can carry a fee scaled to company revenue.
