Content engagement

The volume and rate of likes, comments, shares, and other interactions a piece of content receives relative to its reach.

Content engagement measures the volume and rate of interactions, likes, comments, shares, and saves, a piece of content receives relative to how many people saw it.

It is usually expressed as an engagement rate, interactions divided by reach or impressions, so that a post seen by a small, highly interested audience can be compared fairly with one seen by a much larger one. This differs from raw interaction counts, which favor large accounts regardless of how engaging the content actually was relative to its reach.

Marketers and creators use content engagement to judge which formats, topics, and posting times resonate, and to inform the content velocity of a publishing calendar. It is a leading indicator that often moves before follower counts do. The main pitfall is treating all engagement as equally meaningful: a comment disputing a claim counts the same as one praising it in most raw totals, so engagement volume should be read alongside sentiment analysis.
