Synergy Sports builds its data through manual event coding: trained analysts watch game video and tag each possession by play type, matching data to synchronized video clips. It is best known in basketball, where its play-type breakdowns, such as pick-and-roll, isolation and post-up, are a standard scouting reference for NBA, NCAA and international teams, and it has since expanded coverage to other sports. The product combines a searchable video-and-data platform with statistical reports, letting coaches and scouts pull up every clip matching a given situation rather than working from box scores alone. Because tagging is done by people rather than optical sensors, coverage depth depends on which leagues and levels Synergy has staffed for.
