SingleStore (formerly MemSQL) is a distributed relational database that stores data in both row and columnar formats so the same system can serve fast transactional lookups and large-scale analytical aggregations, an approach it markets as HTAP (hybrid transactional/analytical processing). It uses a MySQL-compatible wire protocol and SQL dialect, distributes data with automatic sharding across nodes, and supports vector search and full-text search alongside traditional SQL for building AI-enabled applications directly on operational data. SingleStore is offered as a managed cloud service (Helios) with a bring-your-own-cloud option, or self-hosted, and is typically chosen over pure analytical warehouses when an application needs both low-latency writes and real-time analytical queries against the same dataset.
