Simio

Object-based discrete-event and agent-based simulation software for factory, logistics and healthcare processes.

Simio is discrete-event simulation software, used to model how a physical or operational process behaves over time — throughput, queuing, resource utilization, bottlenecks — rather than to compute a single optimal solution the way a mathematical solver does. It builds models from reusable 3D objects (machines, conveyors, people, vehicles) that carry their own behavior, so a model is assembled by placing and configuring objects rather than writing a flowchart from scratch, and it supports discrete-event, agent-based and process-based modeling in the same environment. Simio includes built-in tools for running experiments, comparing scenarios and connecting to an optimization engine (via its RiskAnalyzer and OptQuest-based tools) to search over design alternatives. It is commercial, sold as Design, Team and Enterprise editions, with a free full-featured Academic Edition for teaching and research and a downloadable trial.
