Second Spectrum
Optical player-tracking technology, now part of Genius Sports, generating positional data and video from multi-camera systems.
Second Spectrum built its reputation as a leading optical tracking provider, extracting player and ball positional data from multi-camera video installed in stadiums and arenas rather than from wearable devices. It became well known as an official tracking partner in basketball and other leagues, pairing tracking data with AI-generated video highlights and broadcast augmentation. Genius Sports acquired Second Spectrum's technology, and it now operates as Performance Studio within the Genius Sports product line, continuing to serve clubs, leagues and broadcasters with tracking data, automated video clipping and analytics tools. Because it relies on installed camera arrays rather than athlete-worn hardware, it is typically deployed at fixed venues rather than for training grounds or away fixtures.
