SciVal is Elsevier's analytics layer on top of Scopus, aimed less at literature search and more at answering management questions: how does our institution's output compare with named peers, which topics are gaining momentum, and who are potential collaborators in a given field. It packages Scopus's citation data into benchmarking reports, collaboration-network maps and topic-prominence trends that research offices use for strategic planning and funding-body reporting. Because it draws on Scopus rather than an independent index, its coverage and citation counts inherit Scopus's scope and any of its blind spots. It's sold alongside Scopus and Pure as part of Elsevier's research-management suite, with pricing set by quote per institution rather than published.
