Scopus is Elsevier's citation database, generally indexing a larger set of journals and conference proceedings than Web of Science, with a bias toward including titles once they meet Elsevier's quality and regularity thresholds. It calculates CiteScore as its own journal-level metric, maintains author and affiliation profiles, and links citation data to patents and funding records. Scopus AI adds a conversational search layer over the same underlying database. It feeds Elsevier's SciVal analytics product, so institutions already on SciVal typically standardize on Scopus as the source data. Access is by institutional subscription with no public price list. The practical choice between Scopus and Web of Science usually comes down to coverage breadth versus editorial selectivity for the fields being analyzed.
