SIMCA

Multivariate data analysis software used to model batch manufacturing processes and predict product quality in real time.

SIMCA is multivariate data analysis (MVDA) software from Sartorius's Umetrics product line, used to analyze manufacturing process and batch data that has too many correlated variables for classical single-variable SPC control charts to handle well, such as biopharmaceutical bioreactor runs or chemical batch processes. It applies techniques including principal component analysis (PCA) and partial least squares (PLS/OPLS) to identify which combinations of process parameters explain variation in outcome quality, flag batches that deviate from a trained normal-operating-conditions model, and predict final product quality from in-process measurements. SIMCA-Q, an embeddable version of the same modeling engine, lets manufacturers build these models into their own process-control or SCADA software rather than running the desktop application directly. It targets process engineers and process-analytical-technology (PAT) teams in biopharma and specialty chemical manufacturing who need to monitor processes with many interacting variables, complementing rather than replacing classical univariate SPC tools like InfinityQS.
