Microsoft Azure PlayFab

Azure backend-as-a-service for games bundling LiveOps, multiplayer hosting and player data with a built-in analytics event pipeline.

Azure PlayFab is Microsoft's backend-as-a-service platform for games, bundling LiveOps, multiplayer server hosting, matchmaking, and player data management alongside built-in analytics (PlayStream events, player segmentation, and reporting dashboards) rather than being a standalone analytics product. Studios use it to instrument in-game events through PlayStream, then use those same events to trigger LiveOps actions such as targeted offers, A/B tests, and player segment updates, so analytics and live-game operations run off one event pipeline. Because it's part of Azure, PlayFab meters usage across many separate services (analytics events, multiplayer server compute, title data reads/writes) with per-meter pricing rather than one flat analytics fee, and large customers can bill through an Azure Enterprise Agreement. It is cloud-hosted only, free to start for titles in development, with a scaling set of paid tiers once a game goes live.
