NETSCOUT builds network visibility products around what it calls "Smart Data": structured, enriched metadata extracted from real-time packet traffic across enterprise, cloud and carrier networks. That data feeds several product lines, network and application performance monitoring, DDoS attack detection and mitigation (a business built on its Arbor Networks acquisition), cybersecurity threat detection, and carrier-grade 5G service assurance for mobile network operators. Telecom operators specifically use its carrier solutions to monitor network health and service quality at scale. Compared with Opensignal or Ookla, which measure network performance from the outside via consumer devices and apps, NETSCOUT instruments the network infrastructure itself, giving operators and enterprises direct packet-level visibility rather than crowdsourced measurements.
