Free, open-source survey framework for chaining surveys into longitudinal studies with R-based dynamic feedback.
formr is built for a use case general survey tools handle poorly: longitudinal and diary studies that chain multiple surveys together over weeks or months with automated email or text reminders between waves. It embeds R directly into the survey flow, so a respondent can see a personalized chart (built with ggplot2 or ggvis) generated from their own prior answers before continuing, which is used in psychology research for feedback-based study designs. It's maintained by an academic institute (the University of Göttingen's psychology department) as free, open-source software rather than a commercial product, and integrates with OSF for version-controlled study materials. It is mobile-responsive but, being research software maintained by an academic group, has less polish and support infrastructure than commercial survey platforms.
