Firefly III is a free, open-source personal finance manager built on double-entry bookkeeping principles, tracking accounts, budgets, bills, and recurring transactions with detailed reporting and charts. It is self-hosted only: there is no official vendor-run cloud version, so running it requires a server (a VPS, home server, or NAS) with Docker or a PHP/MySQL-MariaDB/PostgreSQL stack, plus ongoing responsibility for updates, backups, and security patching. A companion importer tool can pull data from CSV files, Nordigen/GoCardless open-banking connections, and other bank export formats. Because the whole project is community-maintained and licensed under the GNU AGPL, there are no subscription tiers, upsells, or vendor lock-in, but also no vendor support beyond community channels and documentation.
