Cognite Data Fusion ingests data from industrial sources such as historians, SCADA systems, engineering documents and 3D models, then builds a contextualized industrial data model, called an industrial knowledge graph, that links raw sensor tags to the physical equipment, documents and processes they belong to. That contextualization is the main thing it sells: raw historian data on its own is hard to reuse across applications because tag names are cryptic and disconnected from equipment hierarchies, and Cognite's platform is meant to make that data usable for dashboards, machine-learning models and applications built by the customer or by Cognite's own application layer. It grew out of Aker, a Norwegian industrial group, and targets asset-heavy industries like oil and gas, manufacturing and energy. It is delivered primarily as a cloud SaaS platform sold to industrial enterprises on subscription contracts.
