AVEVA PI System
Long-standing industrial data historian for collecting, storing and contextualizing real-time sensor and process data.
The PI System is the industry-standard time-series data historian for industrial operations, originally built by OSIsoft and now sold by AVEVA after its 2021 acquisition of OSIsoft; the product is still widely referred to by its former name, OSIsoft PI, in many plants that installed it years ago. It collects high-frequency sensor and control-system data from equipment across a plant or fleet of sites, stores it efficiently for long time horizons, and provides tools, including PI Vision and Asset Framework, for visualizing and contextualizing that data by equipment, unit or process rather than raw tag names. Most deployments run on-premises at the plant for reliability and latency reasons, though AVEVA now also offers cloud and hybrid connectivity through AVEVA Data Hub and AVEVA Connect. It underpins many of the analytics vendors in this category, including Seeq, which read data out of PI rather than replacing it.
