Charity Navigator is not software but a free, public-facing charity evaluation and rating service, included here because donors, grantmakers and nonprofits themselves use its scores as a benchmarking data source. It rates US-registered 501(c)(3) nonprofits on financial efficiency, accountability, transparency and, for a growing set of organizations, impact and results, based on IRS Form 990 filings and self-reported data. Donors use it to vet charities before giving; nonprofits use their own profile and score to understand how they compare to peers and to identify what a rater or major donor might scrutinize. It has no deployment model, subscription tiers or integrations in the conventional software sense — access to ratings and the underlying data is free, with an API and bulk data available to partner organizations under separate arrangements.
