Verdict
These two sit at opposite ends of the customer journey analytics market rather than competing head to head for the same buyer. Adobe Customer Journey Analytics is built on Adobe Experience Platform to combine data from many sources — web, mobile app, call centre, CRM, IoT, offline — into a single person-centric dataset with flexible, business-defined identity stitching and real-time streaming ingestion. It is quote-priced enterprise software typically bought alongside Adobe Experience Platform and Real-Time CDP. Usermaven tracks website and in-product events automatically, with no manual instrumentation required, and visualizes them as funnels, journeys and cohort/retention views, published on self-serve monthly pricing aimed at small and mid-sized SaaS and ecommerce companies.
The gap between them is less about feature depth in journey visualization and more about how many data sources you actually need to unify, and what budget and implementation timeline you're working with.
Choose Adobe Customer Journey Analytics if
- Your journey genuinely spans channels a single tracking script cannot see — call-centre interactions, offline transactions, CRM records, IoT signals — and you need them stitched into one identity.
- You are already running, or planning to run, Adobe Experience Platform and Real-Time CDP, and want journey analytics native to that stack.
- You need real-time streaming ingestion and flexible identity resolution rules an enterprise data-governance team can configure.
- You have budget and implementation resources for an enterprise rollout, not a script-tag install.
Choose Usermaven if
- You are a SaaS or ecommerce growth team and your journey question is mostly about website and in-product behaviour.
- You want automatic event tracking without a heavy manual-instrumentation project, and a published price you can start on today.
- Privacy-friendly, cookieless tracking without a consent banner matters to your audience or your compliance posture.
- You may eventually need multi-touch ad attribution or CRM revenue attribution — Usermaven's Scale tier adds both without switching products.
The honest caveat
This is not really a like-for-like decision at the price Adobe CJA is sold at — it is closer to choosing between a full data-platform commitment and a point tool. Usermaven's Enterprise tier does add SSO and an on-premises option, narrowing the gap slightly for a growing company with tighter requirements, but it still stops short of Adobe's cross-channel, offline-inclusive data model. If your journey question is confined to your own website and product, buying Adobe CJA for that alone would mean paying for integration capability you will not use.
