Redash is an open-source query-and-visualization tool built around a browser-based SQL editor: connect to a data source, write a query, turn the result into a chart, and drop it on a dashboard. It was originally popular with engineering teams that wanted a fast query-to-chart workflow without a heavyweight BI platform. Databricks acquired Redash in 2020 and shut down the hosted Redash Cloud service in 2021, folding paying customers toward Databricks SQL. The open-source project itself is still maintained, now by community volunteers rather than Databricks staff, with releases continuing at a slower, roughly annual cadence. Today Redash is only available self-hosted (Docker/Kubernetes), with no vendor-hosted paid tier or official commercial support.
