Health Catalyst provides a data platform, the Data Operating System (DOS), that ingests data from EHRs, claims and other clinical and financial source systems across a health system, normalizing it into a common model regardless of which EHR vendor a hospital runs. On top of that platform it sells applications for clinical quality improvement, cost accounting, population health, and patient safety, along with professional services to help health systems adopt them. This vendor-agnostic approach differentiates it from analytics tools bundled into a single EHR, since a health system can combine data from Epic, Oracle Health and other systems in one place. It is a publicly traded company (Nasdaq: HCAT) selling to hospitals, health systems and payers on multi-year contracts, and it handles protected health information under HIPAA.
