Altmetric
Tracks and scores online attention to research outputs from news, social media, policy documents and blogs.
Altmetric tracks mentions of a research output across news outlets, X/social platforms, policy documents, blogs, Wikipedia and post-publication peer review, then rolls them into a single Attention Score with a colored "donut" visualization that publishers embed on article pages. This measures visibility and discussion, not research quality, and is meant to complement citation counts rather than replace them. Individual authors and publishers can view attention data for free via the embeddable badge, while Altmetric Explorer, sold to institutions, adds search, reporting and portfolio-level tracking for research offices measuring outreach and policy impact. It is owned by Digital Science, the same group behind Dimensions, and the two integrate closely.
