On-time in full (OTIF)

The share of customer orders delivered both on the promised date and complete, with nothing missing or short.

Also called: OTIF

On-time in full (OTIF) is a combined delivery metric: an order counts as OTIF only if it arrives both on the promised date and complete, with nothing missing or short. Being a day late or one unit short fails the entire order, even if every other line was perfect.

It's calculated as OTIF % = orders delivered on time and in full / total orders. Large retailers often apply it strictly at the order or line level and may impose financial chargebacks on suppliers who fall below an agreed target. OTIF differs from fill rate, which looks only at completeness, and from on-time performance, which looks only at timing; because OTIF requires both at once, it is typically lower than either component measured on its own.

Improving OTIF usually requires better supply chain visibility and more disciplined lead-time planning rather than just carrying more inventory, since timing failures and completeness failures often have different root causes. A common pitfall is optimizing one half of the metric — say, always shipping complete by simply waiting longer — at the expense of the other.
