Box Office Mojo and The Numbers cover the same basic ground — daily, weekend, monthly and all-time domestic and international grosses, plus release calendars — and both are free at the core. The difference is what sits behind that free tier. Box Office Mojo, owned by IMDb, moved franchise, actor, filmmaker and budget breakdowns behind an IMDbPro subscription in a 2020 redesign, later restoring brand, franchise and genre indices to free access. The Numbers, run independently by Nash Information Services since 1997, has never put a paywall up: its per-movie financials, including its own production-budget estimates, remain free.
Choose Box Office Mojo if
- You mainly need headline grosses and rankings, which remain free, and you're comfortable paying for IMDbPro if you later need franchise, actor or budget-level detail.
- You want a site widely cited and cross-linked across the film-industry press, which can matter for how a figure is received.
- You already have or would use an IMDbPro subscription for other reasons (cast/crew data, contact info), making the incremental cost of the deeper breakdowns lower.
Choose The Numbers if

The honest caveat
Neither publishes studio-confirmed budgets — both sites' budget figures are researcher-compiled estimates, and they can disagree with each other on the same film. If a specific number matters for a decision rather than a general sense of scale, cross-check it against both sources, or against a studio's own public statements, before treating either as definitive.
