Council employee asked to work from home - they had secret 2nd job

12+ min ago (523+ words) A West London council employee secretly working a second job for the Government resigned after apparently catching wind of a fraud investigation into their deceit. A Hammersmith and Fulham Council fraud report revealed that the individual, who has not been identified, was investigated after being linked to a job at the Ministry of Justice, Prison and Probation Service. Before this could be concluded the employee resigned, "returned all LBHF equipment, and suggested awareness of our investigation", the report notes. The case is one of several detailed in the council's latest Corporate Anti-Fraud Service (CAFS) Half-Year Progress Report, covering the period between April 1 and September 30, 2025. The CAFS tackles not just fraud but also bribery and corruption against Hammersmith and Fulham Council. The Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS) has covered previous findings by the service, from an employee caught doing private work…...

Teen allegedly made explosives after 'threatening to blow up school"

1+ hour, 42+ min ago (638+ words) Ntsele allegedly also had "improvised battery-powered" electric-ignition muzzle-loading" guns, including one that had four barrels, one double-barrelled, and two that were single-barrelled. The jury was told police unearthed the stash in his home after he had a fight with his twin brother on October 27 last year, when he was 17. School records showed he threatened violence against pupils he disliked, Mr Atkinson said. Mr Atkinson told jurors they will likely have to decide "not whether the defendant made a series of viable firearms and explosive devices, but why". He added: "As presently understood, his case is that he was driven by his undoubted autistic condition to make these items for the fun of it. The prosecution case is that his motives were a good deal more sinister and that he made these items with intent that they be used as what…...

Councillor's Lamborghini pictured in disabled bay without blue badge

3+ day, 15+ hour ago (231+ words) A Lamborghini belonging to a West London councillor has been pictured parking in disabled spaces at the council offices, apparently without a blue badge on display. The pictures relate to two separate instances where the car was parked in different disabled spaces. No finding of fault has yet been made against Cllr Rehman, and the Labour Councillor has not responded to requests for comment from the LDRS. While the parking spaces are owned and managed by Hounslow Council, the local authority said it was a matter for Hounslow Labour. However if a general member of the public was caught parking in a disabled bay in the borough without a blue badge, it would be a matter for the council and they could face a fixed penalty notice of "160. She said: "It [would make] you think, there clearly is a hierarchy,…...

GLA 'told developers to dig a trench' to inflate affordable housing

4+ day, 15+ hour ago (690+ words) The Greater London Authority has been told to launch a full investigation into claims its officials encouraged developers to "dig a trench" in order to boost figures for affordable housing starts. Tim Craine, the founder of London development analysts Molior, said the Mayor should be "livid" that the housing department allegedly "embellished" figures and accused Sir Sadiq Khan of "misleading" voters in last year's election campaign. In April 2023, the GLA said that construction had started on 25,658 affordable homes during the previous year, making a total of 116,000 during the Mayor's tenure. Mr Craine claimed that officials "counted housing starts prematurely", only for development schemes to "become unviable" due to interest rate rises and construction costs soaring. "This means many of those 25,568 homes are still not under construction today," he said. To get around this, he claims developers, housing associations and local…...

South London council denies request to halt closure of school for autistic kids

5+ day, 15+ hour ago (557+ words) A South London council has thrown out a request to delay closure of a much-loved residential school in Kent for autistic children. Bradstow School will close on December 31, after Labour-run Wandsworth Council agreed it was not financially viable to keep it open any longer. Conservative councillors had called in the cabinet's decision to shut the school, which was taken on November 3, arguing it might have broken rules on transparency and reasonability. They hoped to delay the decision to give the school more time to explore options to stay open. But the council's general overview and scrutiny committee rejected the request after a debate on November 17. The move means the closure will come into effect on December 31. Labour councillor Sheila Boswell said: "I know this decision will be viewed as unpopular and I know it's a huge disappointment to the staff…...
