USAspending.gov is the official, free public source of U.S. federal spending data, built and maintained by the Treasury Department's Bureau of the Fiscal Service to meet the transparency requirements of the federal DATA Act. It lets anyone search and visualize federal awards, contracts, grants, loans and direct payments, by recipient, agency, geography or time period, including dedicated tracking of COVID-19 and disaster-relief spending, and download the underlying data in bulk. The site is backed by a free, public, unauthenticated REST API (api.usaspending.gov) whose server code is open source and released as CC0/public domain, so researchers, journalists and contractors can pull the same data programmatically rather than scraping the site. It is a government-run, taxpayer-funded transparency tool rather than a commercial analytics product, so it has no pricing or paid tiers.
