Measures for Justice (MFJ) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that collects criminal justice records from counties and states and converts them into a standard set of performance measures covering policing, prosecution, courts and corrections, then publishes the results through a free public web portal and a data-sharing tool called Commons. It is aimed at researchers, journalists, policymakers and local justice officials who want to compare how a county's justice system performs (case outcomes, time to disposition, racial disparities and similar metrics) against other jurisdictions, without commissioning original data collection. MFJ also runs technical-assistance and data-quality work with individual counties. The organization is funded by philanthropic foundations, including the MacArthur Foundation and Arnold Ventures, rather than by selling subscriptions, and its portal data is free to use.
