Apify is a hosted platform for running web crawlers and automation scripts, packaged as "Actors" — Docker-based programs that can be scheduled, scaled and chained in the cloud. Its marketplace has thousands of ready-made Actors for common targets (e-commerce, social, maps, job boards) that users can run without writing code, alongside an SDK for building custom ones in JavaScript or Python. It bundles its own proxy pool for anti-blocking, storage for scraped results, and webhooks/APIs for integration, so it competes with both proxy vendors and crawler frameworks depending on whether a team writes its own Actor or rents one. Everything runs on Apify's cloud; the open-source Crawlee library underneath can be run independently outside the platform.
