Quota attainment
The percentage of an assigned sales quota that a rep, team or organization actually achieved in a period.
Also called: quota achievement
Quota attainment compares the revenue, bookings or units a salesperson actually closed against the target, or quota, they were assigned for a period, typically a quarter or year. It is calculated as actual results / quota x 100, and is one of the primary ways sales organizations measure individual and team performance.
Attainment is usually reported both per rep and in aggregate, and the shape of the distribution matters as much as the average: a team where most reps land near 100% suggests quotas are well calibrated, while one with a few reps far over and many far under can point to poor territory planning or unrealistic target-setting rather than an execution problem.
Attainment drives compensation, coaching and forecasting decisions, since a team's historical attainment rate informs how much confidence to put in current-quarter sales forecasting. A common pitfall is comparing attainment across reps with very different territory sizes or account mixes without normalizing for opportunity, and pipeline built through deal-splitting or timing games can inflate short-term attainment while masking a weaker underlying win rate.
