Verdict
Both are browser-based charting platforms with no local install, and both support strategy backtesting and broker connections for live execution. The real difference is who does the analytical work. TradingView gives you a large indicator library, Pine Script for custom indicators and strategies, and a social feed of trader-published chart ideas — but trendlines, patterns and support/resistance zones are drawn by you, manually or through your own script. TrendSpider automates that layer: it detects trendlines, chart patterns, Fibonacci levels and support/resistance algorithmically, and lets you build "bots" that scan the market and trigger alerts on those conditions without you drawing anything.
Choose TradingView if
- You want the broadest community and social feed of trader ideas, plus a large public library of community-built indicators.
- You prefer to draw and control your own technical analysis, or script it yourself in Pine Script.
- You want a genuinely free forever plan to start on, with paid tiers raising chart and alert limits as you need them.
Choose TrendSpider if
- You want trendlines, patterns and support/resistance detected automatically instead of drawn by hand, especially across many symbols at once.
- You want to build automated "bots" that scan for a specific setup and alert you, rather than checking charts manually.
- You need backtesting down to 1-minute resolution, available on TrendSpider's higher tiers.
The honest caveat
TrendSpider has no persistent free tier — its lowest published plan runs from roughly $52/month, against TradingView's genuinely free forever plan — so the cost of trying automated detection is real, not a quick free trial. Automated pattern detection is also a judgment call you should verify yourself: check TrendSpider's calls against charts you already know well before trusting it on names you don't. See technical analysis and choosing a charting platform for how the rest of the category compares.
