Verdict
Retool and Superblocks compete directly for the same engineering-led buyer, but they lead with different pitches. Retool is the established, closed-source market leader: a free tier for small teams, a large prebuilt component library, and per-builder-plus-per-internal-user pricing that scales with usage. Superblocks has no free tier at all — its entry Teams plan is a flat monthly price metered in "Governed Agent Units" — and leads with Clark, an AI agent that scaffolds and edits apps and workflows and carries memory across builds, alongside conventional drag-and-drop building.
If you want to try before committing any budget, Retool's free tier makes that possible; Superblocks does not offer that option. If an AI agent actively building and iterating on your internal tools is the differentiator you're evaluating, that's Superblocks' explicit bet, not something Retool currently offers in the same way.
Choose Retool if

The honest caveat
Superblocks is the newer, less-established product of the two, with no free tier to de-risk a trial — budget for a paid evaluation rather than a casual test. Retool's larger installed base means more prior art (community components, Stack Overflow answers, hired talent who already know it) if that matters for your team's ramp-up time. Both connect to similar databases and APIs and offer role-based access control; the decision here is really about AI-agent maturity versus ecosystem maturity, and only your own trial will tell you which one actually saves your builders time.
