Verdict
Moesif and Treblle are both standalone API analytics platforms that don't require adopting a specific gateway — traffic reaches either from SDKs, gateways or log drains. Past that starting point, they're built around different jobs. Moesif's defining feature is monetization: it turns raw traffic into per-customer usage dashboards and cohort analysis, then pushes billing metrics — call volume, token counts, custom events — to Stripe or Zuora for metered invoicing. It's as much a billing tool as an observability one.
Treblle's defining feature is completeness and compliance: it captures full, unsampled request and response traffic and layers three views over it — observability (traffic and latency dashboards), governance (scoring OpenAPI specs and flagging runtime drift) and security (OWASP-style checks, shadow-endpoint discovery). It holds SOC 2, ISO 27001, GDPR and HIPAA attestations, aiming at teams that need an audit-ready record of API behavior, not just a usage chart.
Choose Moesif if
- Your actual requirement is billing customers based on API or AI product usage, not just watching for errors.
- You want real-time alerting and per-customer cohort segmentation built around individual accounts.
- You're debugging with OpenTelemetry traces already and want that ingestion alongside usage analytics.
Choose Treblle if
- You need unsampled, complete traffic capture rather than sampled visibility, for audit or compliance reasons.
- Governance — scoring your OpenAPI spec and catching runtime drift from it — matters as much as raw traffic monitoring.
- You need specific compliance attestations (SOC 2, HIPAA, GDPR) documented today, not promised on a roadmap.
What they share
Both are cloud-delivered (Treblle also supports self-hosted and on-prem/air-gapped deployment) and both appear on each other's list of alternatives alongside Google Apigee and Kong. Neither requires migrating to a new API gateway, which is the key thing that separates both from the gateway-bundled analytics of Apigee and Kong.
The honest caveat
Moesif's specific dollar pricing tiers were not published in a form that could be verified in this session — its Growth and Pro tiers are described as scaling with tracked event volume, but confirm current figures on Moesif's own pricing page. Treblle publishes a fixed Core plan price but caps it at roughly 5 million requests a month, so estimate your actual traffic volume against that cap before assuming the published price is what you'll pay.
