Verdict
MasterControl and TrackWise cover the same ground for regulated manufacturers: complaints, deviations, nonconformances, CAPA and change control, built for FDA/EMA-validated environments. Both have been folded into larger industrial groups — MasterControl remains independently branded, TrackWise is now owned by Honeywell after its 2020 acquisition of Sparta Systems.
The practical difference is deployment and integration depth. MasterControl is cloud-only, with GxPAssist AI for investigations and quality BI dashboards built into the product. TrackWise is offered both on-premises (TrackWise) and as a cloud product (TrackWise Digital), and its record describes explicit integration with ERP, CRM, LIMS and MES so that quality events raised from manufacturing or field systems flow into the same workflow engine — useful if your quality events originate outside the eQMS itself. TrackWise is also one of the longest-established platforms in this space, which matters to organizations that value a large base of prior validated implementations to reference.
Choose MasterControl if
- You want a modern, cloud-native platform without an on-premises option to evaluate or maintain.
- Built-in AI-assisted investigations and quality BI dashboards are a priority over building your own reporting.
- ISO 13485 and FDA/EMA compliance support out of the box matters more than deep MES/LIMS integration.
Choose TrackWise if
- Data residency, validation policy, or IT governance requires an on-premises deployment option, not only cloud.
- Your quality events need to flow in from ERP, CRM, LIMS or MES systems already in place.
- You want the deepest bench of prior implementations to draw validation precedent from.
The honest caveat
Both vendors describe AI features (GxPAssist, TrackWise AI) aimed at speeding investigations; neither record specifies enough detail to say one is meaningfully more capable than the other, so treat AI depth as a question for a trial, not a deciding factor from the vendor pages alone.
